Filona

Fresh cheese is in vogue. It is becoming increasingly popular as a spread or for cooking or baking. Swiss consumers are increasingly paying attention to regionality, quality and price. Good reasons why Züger Frischkäse AG has taken over the Filona brand rights from Coop. Since its launch over two years ago, production has been based at Züger Frischkäse AG in Oberbüren (SG) anyway. Filona will officially be available in the chiller cabinets of Coop, Spar and Volg from 15 April 2023.

Even more attention and success for Filona

Mozzarella made from Swiss milk has established itself in recent years. Today, 80 percent of the mozzarella eaten in Switzerland is also made from Swiss milk. The situation is different with cream cheese: the light and airy spread, which is also used for baking and cooking, still comes mainly from abroad. Together with Coop, Züger Frischkäse AG therefore launched Filona in autumn 2020, a classic me-too product for foreign competitors. The launch took place under Coop's own brand "qualité&prix" and sales developed well. A first success for fresh cheese from Switzerland! Filona has not yet made the big breakthrough, as was the case with mozzarella. In order to get closer to this goal, the family-owned company in eastern Switzerland is adopting Filona into its brand line from April 2023 and selling it under the Filona brand from Züger. No changes will be made to the recipe of the products. With the acquisition of Filona, Züger Frischkäse AG will be able to sell the product in additional channels and invest in marketing accordingly.

Filona conquers the whole of Switzerland

Filona is incredibly versatile and a popular ingredient in many sweet or savoury recipes. Airy, mild and yet full-bodied, Filona is to the taste of young and old alike. Filona is available in the flavours Nature, Herbs and Lactose-free and is produced regionally and sustainably in Oberbüren (SG) with Swiss quality milk. Filona Nature and Kräuter will be available throughout Switzerland from 15 April 2023 at Coop, Spar and Volg. In terms of price, Filona is positioned more favourably than the market-leading competitors from abroad and at the same time scores with regionality, Swiss quality and short transport routes.
